The attic access door is often the name used to describe push up type access panels knee wall doors or any type of entry point into the attic space.
Build frame around rigid foam board for attic door.
The most common of these is the push up type panel that is simply drywall or plywood held in place by simple wood trims.
Cut out the foam board using a utility knife and a straightedge.
This is a flexible vinyl covered foam that squashes nicely to form a reasonably air tight seal but only when pressure is applied on it.
Foam board insulation is easy to cut with a circular saw with a masonry blade or scored with a utility knife and snapped like you would drywall.
Foam insulation boards can be attached to concrete walls as well and in such a case care should be taken not to chip the cement.
Step 2 install insulation boards.

When installing foam insulation boards in the attic make sure you start from one corner and work your way around the room.
In this next step you have to cut a piece of rigid foam board or fiberglass to glue or nail it on the back of the attic hatch or attic access door.
If the attic door is placed on the foam board use the edges of the door as the cutting guide.
Step 3 place caulking and furring strips.

To attach the insulation you can use screws with large washers a special adhesive made for adhering foam board insulation or for smaller pieces you can seal them in with caulk or spray foam.
Add fiberglass or rigid foam board to back of hatch.
Insulate the hatch cut foam board to 1 2รข less than the size of the hatch on each side.
The next three pictures show the stock kerfed and assembled into the shape of our attic access hatch make sure to square your frame at this point.
Cut out two pieces of rigid foam board that are 1 4 inch smaller than the hatch so homeowners can slide the attic access panel open easily.
Add rigid foam fiberglass board to the back of the hatch.
To insulate an attic hatch you need weather stripping rigid foam board and fiberglass batt insulation.
Apply a bead of foam compatible glue to it and attach it to the plywood hatch.
